School’s Out, Food’s Out

When School Ends, Hunger Doesn’t

When schools close, free school meals, breakfast clubs and after-school provision disappear overnight. Families already struggling to make ends meet must suddenly find the money for weeks of additional meals, while balancing rising household costs and childcare expenses.

This summer, thousands of children will face hunger, isolation and hardship simply because school is out.

With your help, Food Bank Aid is working to supply over 30 London food banks to ensure children don’t go hungry this summer. This means you can help support over 20,000 people, including nearly 5,000 children.

The Facts.

1 in 3 children in London live in poverty, rising to nearly 1 in 2 in some of the boroughs where Food Bank Aid provides support.

For families already struggling, the loss of school meals means finding money for up to five additional meals per child every week throughout the summer break.

For the 90,000 children living in temporary accommodation across London, the challenge is even greater. Many families lack access to proper cooking or refrigeration facilities, making affordable, nutritious meals difficult to prepare.
