From the Tea Table

This month’s message from our CEO, Alyson Walsh.

As we head towards the Calendar Year End, I can’t believe that a full 12 months have passed since my joining Food Bank Aid.

It has been a whirlwind and I have been so inspired by our incredible volunteers, supporters and of course, the work of our 33 food banks for their clients.

Last week’s Budget announcements added an extra dimension to our thinking.

The good news is that there will be more support for families in poverty – such as the removal of the Two Child Benefit cap and more free school breakfasts, but those plans won’t come into effect immediately.

Similarly, there will be tax breaks for companies to donate products to charities and funding for surplus food to be redistributed to those in need. Both of these programmes begin with what’s available, rather than what is actually needed, which makes Food Bank Aid’s people-first approach even more important.

We provide exactly what food banks and their clients need: from culturally or dietary appropriate ingredients and quick to cook foods to age-relevant children’s milk and nappies, our focus is always on relevance, timing, and dignity.
