Cereal Champions

In London, 700,000 children (33%) live in poverty, the highest rate in England (The Childhood Trust). Hunger and food insecurity are impacting children’s ability to learn, causing poor concentration, tiredness, and behavioural problems (Magic Breakfast). For families facing child poverty, even basic staples like cereal and milk can be out of reach.

Thanks to the generosity of local schools and supporters – and the amazing work of our school ambassadors Alison and Mia – we’re thrilled to celebrate a major achievement: 6,000 boxes of cereal collected for local food banks. To put that into perspective, if stacked one on top of another, the boxes would reach 1.8 km into the sky, roughly four times the height of The Shard. Lined up side by side, they would stretch the length of five football pitches. Altogether, that’s 3 tonnes of breakfast – enough for around 100,000 bowls of cereal  – helping children across our community start the day with energy to play and learn.

We also had some fantastic content from the schools, from photos to cereal domino challenge videos, which we shared on our socials to celebrate their generosity and creativity. Schools went above and beyond, organising collections, engaging pupils, and running fun initiatives to encourage donations.

We want to keep this momentum going. If you work at a school or are a parent who would like to engage your school in a collection or fundraiser, get in touch info@foodbankaid.org.uk. Together, we can ensure no child starts the day hungry and that local food banks are stocked with essential breakfast items.
