From the Tea Table

April’s Reflections from Alyson

Whether you’ve been celebrating Easter, Passover, Eid or just a long Bank Holiday weekend, I hope that you have enjoyed the past few weeks with friends, family and of course, food!

Food is always central to festivals, celebrations and social interactions and ensuring that our London food banks have access to the food that they need for their clients drives everything we do at Food Bank Aid’s.

And which is why we’re so grateful for the support that thousands of you showed for our annual Double the Donation Fill the Gap campaign in March, helping us smash our £1 million goal.
Whether you were a Campaign Team Leader to raise funds, donated directly, helped with the campaign by phoning supporters, flyering your local neighbourhoods or supported through your workplace, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thank you so very much indeed.

But we can never stand still and 2026 is no different.
Food costs over the past year have increased by 30% for some products like cereal bars and 25% for others such as jam, so we have to make our funds work as hard as they can.
At the same time, more families will be plunged into poverty through the rising costs driven by the war in the Middle East, and household bills being affected in households where there is already little flexibility.

We’ll be listening to our food bank partners to learn more of what they need for their clients and will be ready to act, but we’re only able to do so thanks to your unwavering support.
So thank you, for helping us, to help them.
