Zara’s Story
When Zara* knocked on the door at one of Food Bank Aid’s partner food banks, she was six months pregnant, caring for a toddler, and living in constant fear.
Her landlord was harassing the family and repeatedly trying to break into their home – until the police had to intervene. Zara’s landlord tried to force her family out without a legal eviction notice.
Terrified and unable to understand her rights, she was on the brink of becoming unlawfully homeless with her new-born baby.
Luckily she wasn’t left to face this alone.
The advisory team at the food bank challenged the landlord and stopped the unlawful eviction and then navigated the housing system on her behalf and secured safe accommodation for her family. When her baby arrived, we helped Zara set up her new home with food and essentials.
